Community Center at Fort Drum

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Fort Drum has built community centers in each of the housing areas. This is one of the best ideas the Army has ever had. The community centers consist of an indoor playground, an outside playground, skatepark, waterpark, fitness center, a living room with a tv and fireplace, and areas with kitchens to hold parties or get togethers.

During the winter it was nice to be able to take my kids to the indoor playground while it was 10 degrees outside. What kinds of things do you have on your post? Would love to hear about it!

Going to California

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Hello Everyone

I have been getting ready to go to California for 3 months while my husband goes to BNOC. My parents are so excited to see the kids. They get so big and the family doesn’t get to see them often. The problem we’re having is getting someone to take care of our dog. He’s a lab and it cost too much to take him to a boarding place.

Army Wives on Lifetime

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I’m sure you all have seen the show, so I thought I would write a blog where we could talk about it. So did you see last nights episode?

After I got past the details of the show, you know the ones that don’t make sense to us who actually live the military life, I really found the show to be very addictive. Please share you’r thoughts.

Husband has Duty

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Oh how I hate when my husband has staff duty. My son wouldn’t go to sleep and my daughter drove me crazy with the whinning. Then tomorrow I still don’t have the day off because he will sleep all day.

Sometimes I don’t understand why the military has staff duty. Are you telling me that a bunch of grown a** people can’t behave without a babysitter. I remember when I was still in and 7 months pregnant having to sit there at the staff duty desk and being sooo furious at the fact that I had to sweep and mop these soldiers’ barracks. I don’t ask them to come clean my home so why was I cleaning theirs?

Oh well, that’s the military life.

Later,
Daniele

Any Fort Drum Readers?

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I would love to know if there are anyone reading who lives at Fort Drum or will be arriving here soon? Or maybe just an Army wife who feels totally lost or alone.

I have to say, i’ve been there. Military housing can be hard to live in and knowing how to meet neighbors who aren’t crazy is the best start. I can’t say that I have conquered that obstacle. When we first moved into housing we had a neighbor who would cheat on her husband and drank alot, but I felt sorry for her and tried to help. Let me tell you, that didn’t end well. Sometimes who have to let those who won’t help themeselves go and find themeselves. It’s hard.

Do you have a story of a crazy neighbor. Tell me!!

Being a stay-at-home mom

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Well, being a soldier’s wife is hard enough, but being a stay at home mom as well can be even harder. Today had to be the most boring day ever. Have you ever had days like this. First, you don’t have a plan for the day and then you just wish you’r husband was home.

Donnie works in the Division headquarters and sometimes he can’t even get training holidays off, let alone a holiday. But sometimes I have to think about those wives whose husbands are in the infantry. The Army is worse on them then it is on me.

I guess my point is…. No matter where you’r soldier works, there are wives whose husbands have worse jobs in the military then yours.

Take care,
Daniele

The truth behind Privatized Housing

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

If you live on a base that has been taken over by civilians, then you know the frustration that comes with it. Yes, they respond to work orders in a very timely fashion, but they also make you pay rent by your pay grade. Who else is angry about this? I feel bad for the officers who have to pay almost 2,000 dollars to live in a 2 bedroom home, while an E1 pays 400 dollars for a 4 bedroom home. It does suck, but we all knew what we were getting into when we accepted on post housing.

Are you moving to Fort Drum? Well, here’s a website that can help you

Until next time

Hello Everybody!!

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

My name is Daniele and I am so excited to be the new author for lifeonpost. I would like to begin by telling you a little about myself, but not so much that you get bored and stop reading.

I spent 6 years as an active duty Army Soldier and met my husband Donnie here at Fort Drum. After having a son and then becoming pregnant with my daughter, we decided it was best that I got out and my husband remained in. I am a stay at home mom who is driven to insanity daily. My son will be 3 in October and my daughter is 15 months old.

I would like to get some feedback as to what kind of information you find helpful. Fort Drum now has privatized housing and we will be dealing with paying our own gas and electric bills soon so I will find more information for those who are on a post that will be dealing with that soon.

It’s great to be here. I can’t wait to really start my new adventure.
